A closer look at the major projects and expansions in Van Dyk’s 2023 portfolio Major projects and expansions close 2023 for Van Dyk Recycling Solutions Murphy Road Recycling Murphy Road Recycling, LLC was awarded the 2023 Recycling Facility of the Year title by the National Waste & Recycling Association for their new single stream MRF in Berlin, CT (dubbed the All American MRF). Facilities with Van Dyk systems have won 7 out of the last 9 NWRA awards for Recycling Facility of the Year. FCC Environmental Services In a deal with the Western Placer Waste Management Authority, FCC Environmental Services is building a 650,000-ton-per-year recycling complex to process the county’s solid waste. The construction and demolition (C&D) portion of the system is preparing for the commissioning stage. It will use density separation and optical sorting to process construction and demolition waste. FCC Environmental Services MSW System Following completion of the C&D system at FCC Environmental Services’ Placer County MRF, installation will begin on the municipal solid waste (MSW) system. Equipment has already been delivered. The system will separate household waste to divert recyclables and organics from landfill in compliance with California’s SB-1383 regulation. WM Automated Single-Stream Systems In 2024, Van Dyk looks forward to kicking off installation on two brand new, highly automated residential single-stream sorting systems in Texas, one in the New Braunfels area between Austin and San Antonio and one in the Fort Worth area. Both will be owned and operated by WM. WM Invests in Upgrading Facilities Throughout North America WM has announced plans to make substantial investments in new and upgraded recycling facilities throughout North America. Van Dyk is proud to collaborate with WM on many of these projects, including: Woodinville, Washington; Cleveland, Ohio; Germantown, Wisconsin; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Surprise, Arizona. Crown Shred & Recycling Crown Shred & Recycling Inc. of Regina, Saskatchewan, is building a brand new 30-ton-per-hour single stream system to increase the volume of material processed by the company. The highly automated technology is anticipated to also increase recycling rates in the area. The highly modernized system will feature a flexible and “future ready” design to meet emerging material sorting requirements. Penn Waste System Rebuild After Penn Waste suffered a devastating fire, they put forth a well-coordinated effort to rebuild their system in just one year. To replace its container line, the company turned to Van Dyk Recycling Solutions and Pellenc ST to supply six Mistral+ CONNECT optical sorters, which brought an increase in the plant’s recovery capabilities. NOVA Circular Solutions Van Dyk is a contributor to NOVA Circular Solutions’ first mechanical recycling facility, which will convert postconsumer plastic films into recycled polyethylene with a capacity of over 100 million pounds per year. Van Dyk is providing optical sorters and conveying equipment for this state-of-the-art recycling facility. Freepoint Eco-Systems Freepoint Eco-Systems is partnering with Van Dyk to develop a large mixed plastics preprocessing plant that will use elliptical separation and optical sorting to recover plastics from MRF residue. Startup is expected in 2024. Evergreen Evergreen is adding four new TOMRA Flakesorters to process recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) into food-grade recycled rPET pellets used to manufacture new bottles. Smimo Food Waste Depackaging A Smimo food waste depacking machine by manufacturer Smicon is being installed in Sunnyvale, California, as part of an organics recycling system. These depacking machines turn food waste into feedstock for renewable energy while diverting the material from landfill. This is the sixth Smimo machine to be installed in the U.S. Van Dyk Supplies 37 Balers in 2023 2023 was a good year for supplying balers. Van Dyk put 25 balers into MRF projects and 12 balers into high-volume commercial and high-grade facilities. Sites include Pioneer Industries, Fontana Recycling, Taylor Recycling and WM Paper Valley. Bollegraaf’s Newest System Our manufacturing partner, Bollegraaf Recycling Solutions, unveils its newest system outside Rotterdam, Netherlands, in a grand opening. The Peute Recycling plant processes 80 tons per hour of paper, cardboard and plastic film using the latest generation equipment, including the 880 antiwrapping screen, the 440 antiwrapping screen and three adjacent balers, two of which are the next-gen Bollegraaf balers, HBC150S. Bollegraaf System at Réunion Island This upcoming Bollegraaf system will process 50 tons per hour of MSW material on the French island of Réunion, off the coast of Madagascar. Instead of going to landfill, the materials will be sorted into seven different fractions and the residue will be turned into fuel to provide power to 11,000 households on the island. Zoomlion Our manufacturing partner, Lubo Recycling Solutions, is wrapping up the first of seven MSW lines for Zoomlion in Ghana. The project features seven MSW lines in total: two fixed, four semi-mobile and one retrofit, in which all machinery will be replaced.
