Atlantic Coast Recycling opens redeveloped MRF
Atlantic Coast Recycling of Passaic, NJ opened a combined single stream and dual stream system in the spring of 2024, after a year-long redevelopment project. The system features eight TOMRA autosort equipped with artificial intelligence to recover paper and plastics from residential and commercial material, and processes over 16,000 tons monthly. The system’s advancements have allowed the MRF to substantially reduce sorting labor costs.

FCC Environmental Services has finished and commissioned its 60 tph C&D system in Roseville, CA to process construction and demolition waste. The next phase of FCC’s deal with the Western Placer Waste Management Authority is completion of a 110 tph MSW line to process the county’s solid waste, which is underway and expected to be operational in late 2025.

Mazza Recycling Services has selected Van Dyk to build their newest C&D plant in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. The system will feature shredders, magnets, Lubo screens and optical sorters to recover wood from mixed construction and demolition waste. The TOMRA optical sorters will be equipped with GAINnext artificial intelligence and Deep Laiser recognition for optimal sortation of wood.

Circular Materials is the not-for-profit producer responsibility organization that is helping producers meet their commitments under the new EPR policy for packaging and paper products in Ontario. To support this initiative, Circular Materials has awarded WM the contract to construct two state-of-the-art recycling facilities strategically located in the Region of Waterloo and Greater Napanee. Scheduled for completion in 2026, these highly automated facilities will support the efficient and effective recycling of material in the province.

The city of Sunnyvale, CA revamped their organics recovery operations by installing a SMIMO120 food depackager and a SMIMO15 grinder from manufacturer Smicon. The depackager liberates and recovers food waste from its packaging, and the grinder prepares the organics for co-digestion at the wastewater treatment plants. Sunnyvale has experienced a 60% increase in storage capacity thanks to the new system and is achieving close to 90% organic recovery.
